The Kaduna State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has suspended its Chairman, Muhammad Lawal Sultan, for a period of six months due to serious misconduct.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Dr. Joshua Madaki, the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party announced the appointment of Hon. Jumare Tanimu Magaji as the acting Chairman until the suspension period concludes.

The decision for the suspension stemmed from a meeting where the SWC evaluated Sultan’s leadership conduct over recent months and determined that he had failed to adhere to the specific provisions of the NNPP constitution.

“The suspension is based on relevant sections of the NNPP constitution concerning gross misconduct that breached its rules,” the statement indicated.

It further mentioned that the acting Chairman, Jumare, previously served as a councillor from 1999 to 2002 under the APP, was a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2009 under the ANPP, and has contested for the House of Representatives three times. In 2012, he acted as an adviser to the Lere Local Government Chairman. Prior to his recent appointment, he held the position of State Treasurer for the NNPP.

“He is a principled individual with a proven track record of integrity who is committed to inclusive leadership and has the interests of the NNPP at heart,” the statement noted.

“As a unifier, the SWC believes he will utilize his extensive democratic experience to unite and advocate for the NNPP’s interests both within the state and beyond.”

The announcement also stated that the SWC has informed all pertinent stakeholders, including the NNPP National Secretariat, INEC, the State Police, the DSS, and the Civil Defence Corps.

The Secretary cautioned the suspended Chairman, Sultan, against presenting himself as the Kaduna NNPP Chairman from now on, and advised others to refrain from engaging in any business dealings with him in the name of the party during the six-month suspension, warning that anyone who does so does so at their own risk.
