The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted a promotional examination on Thursday for 6,000 staff members in the Directorate cadre under the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
During the examination, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede spoke with journalists and mentioned that the exam is also being administered for candidates in the UK, USA, India, and Egypt.
He stated that for candidates in the FCT, the computer-based test (CBT) was held at the JAMB CBT center in Kogo, Bwari Area Council.
He remarked, “It’s important to highlight that this is a very bold initiative by the Federal Civil Service Commission, and I’m not surprised due to their visionary leadership. I also believe that people should not have to wait until they are confronted with challenges. You could see the apprehension among individuals entering the venue, as if the computer was something intimidating, but we have a system that allows for alternative methods.”
“As long as you know how to use a cell phone, you will be able to successfully complete our examination because it’s simply A B C, and you don’t even need to use the mouse. This examination is being conducted not only in Nigeria but also in four countries worldwide: the UK, USA, India, and Egypt. These are the countries where we have deployed our personnel.”
“I believe that the efforts of the Federal Civil Service Commission will reduce people's apprehension about using computers. When I entered the hall, I noticed the initial anxiety, but once they understood the instructions, I asked many of them questions, and they were all smiling.”
“We should not fear the unknown; instead, we should face it head-on. I want to express my gratitude once again to the leadership of the Federal Civil Service Commission for taking this significant step forward.”
Dr. Hussaini Adamu, the Commissioner representing FCT and Niger on the Federal Civil Service Commission, also expressed his satisfaction with the candidates' performance, noting that the assessment began yesterday with approximately 1,500 candidates participating in three sessions.
He stated, “My assessment is that this exercise has been excellent. It reflects JAMB's extensive experience over the decades in conducting this examination successfully. Initially, the candidates were anxious, but once the exercise started, they were very pleased and actually preferred this method over the previous pen-and-paper approach. It is a transparent system.”
Additionally, Prof. Adetunji Olaopa, the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, mentioned that this is the first time the commission has utilized CBT for staff promotion examinations and expressed his satisfaction with the successful examination of 6,000 candidates in the Directorate cadre.
He remarked, “This is a small but significant step for us in many ways. We recognize that computer-based tests are already well-established, but for the Federal Civil Service Commission, this is our first experience with it. We are fortunate to build our confidence on our partnership with a sister institution like JAMB, which has decades of experience.”
“It’s clearly a little over 6,000 candidates involved in the Directorate Cadre examination.”
