The South East Electricity Consumers Association (SEECA) has praised Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for his administration’s dedication to safeguarding the rights of electricity consumers within the state.
This acknowledgment comes after the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) officially transferred regulatory oversight of Anambra’s electricity market to the state government.
The transfer occurred following the inauguration of five commissioners on October 9, 2025, to oversee the newly established Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
In a statement to journalists in Anambra on Monday, SEECA Coordinator Sebastine Okafor referred to the licensing of First Power Electricity Distribution Company Limited (FPEDC) as the state's new electricity distribution entity as a positive development.
He expressed that this initiative has the potential to significantly enhance electricity infrastructure and stimulate industrial growth if implemented effectively.
“Anambra State deserves a more efficient, responsive, and consumer-oriented electricity market that will draw investment, grow local industries, and enhance service delivery across all communities,” Okafor remarked.
He further noted that the entry of FPEDC into the power sector should signal improved accountability, superior customer service, and the introduction of modern energy solutions.
Okafor additionally encouraged the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission to prioritize essential consumer concerns such as metering, tariff transparency, transformer rehabilitation, feeder expansion, and timely resolution of complaints.
According to him, the effectiveness of the new regulatory framework will ultimately be judged by the relief and improvements experienced by consumers in their daily lives.
