Braga’s slur about pink kits took place during first press conference
The Brazilian tactician is now set for his eighth spell as Internacional manager amid a career that has spanned across 40 years, but his latest introduction proved to be quite acrimonious.
According to The Athletic , the ex- boss opened up about a discussion he had with sporting director Andres D’Alessandro regarding his disapproval of the team’s pink jerseys.
Braga said that he told D’Alessandro, “I don’t want my f****** team wearing a pink kit.”
He then followed up that remark with a homophobic comment.
Braga’s comments drew a raft of criticism following his first press conference.
That led to the former Flamengo boss apologising on a story on Instagram .
Braga posted: “Dear Internacional fans, first of all, I acknowledge that I didn’t make a good statement about the colour pink during my press conference.
“Before this spreads, I apologise. Colours don’t define genders. What defines people is character.
“Internacional needs peace and a lot of hard work.”
Braga enjoyed immense success with Internacional throughout his career as he won the Copa Libertadores in 2006.
He also led them to the that same year by beating in the final with a score of 1-0.
