Former Senate leader, Ali Ndume, has urged the Federal Government to implement essential humanitarian measures to support the Borno State government in resettling, reconstructing, and rehabilitating the victims displaced by over a decade of insurgency.

The senator representing Borno South made this appeal during a Christmas event organized in partnership with the Coalition of Christian Youths (Youth-CAN) for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) seeking refuge at the CAN Centre in the northeastern state.

Senator Ndume took the opportunity to praise the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, whom he described as a leader exhibiting remarkable dedication to humanitarian recovery throughout the state, especially in the Gwoza Local Government Area.

He stated, “Of the 27 local governments in Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has demonstrated extraordinary love, bravery, and commitment to Gwoza and other communities affected by conflict.”

In response to the heartfelt appeal from the IDPs for assistance in returning to their ancestral homes, the lawmaker assured them that he would relay their request to Governor Zulum.

“I am pleased to hear that you have personally requested my support to help you return home. We will make sure your return happens,” he said.

“We are fortunate to have a governor who genuinely cares for his people, and I will discuss this matter with him directly.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of Borno State Christian Youths, Barrister Ephraim Yidawi, commended the senator for his support of the youth and called for the active participation of Christian youth organizations in the repatriation and reintegration of refugees from Cameroon.
