UFC icon Don Frye was admitted to the hospital due to a heart condition and could have faced life-threatening consequences had he not received assistance from a former opponent.
Frye, who began his career in 1996 and last competed in 2011, was diagnosed with arrhythmia, a condition that causes the heart to beat either too quickly or too slowly.

The 60-year-old initially refused to go to the hospital, but it was only after his former rival Gary Goodridge alerted his daughter that he finally sought medical help.
Frye shared on his YouTube channel from his hospital bed: “What brought me in here is my daughter.
“Gary Goodridge turned on me, betrayed me, went behind my back, and called the boss.
“The boss came over, threw me in the truck, and I ended up stuck here for a few days.
“I had AFib (Atrial Fibrillation) again. They shocked me out of that back in 2016. It lasted almost a decade.
“I’ve been feeling awful for the last couple of years, but in the last three or four months, I’ve really been declining rapidly.”
Frye faced Goodridge three times between 1996 and 2003, winning the first two matches before losing the final one.
The American, who also had a professional wrestling career, struggled to breathe properly for three weeks, raising concerns for Goodridge.
Frye remarked: “You could tell when Goodridge came over, I couldn’t even go out to feed the horses. He knew something was wrong.
“I still feel exhausted. I’ve started a couple of new medications, so I’m feeling better. I was breathing, but I wasn’t getting enough air.
“I had 96 percent oxygen intake and circulation, but it didn’t feel like it. Now I’m back up to 99 percent or 100 percent.
“I can feel the difference now. I think the new medications are kicking in; they just need to adjust the dosage.”
Goodridge expressed: “I’m really glad we came down here when we did. Sometimes being tough can be too much. You don’t need someone who is overly tough.”
