The violent attack on Sunday night at Afor Market Junction in the Nawfia community, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area, has raised significant concerns regarding the effectiveness of Anambra State’s security measures.
This incident, which reportedly resulted in multiple casualties, has sparked intense criticism of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s approach to security in the state.
John Chuma Nwosu, the gubernatorial candidate for the All Democratic Congress (ADC) in last month’s election in Anambra, described the attack as “distressing” and condemned it vehemently.
In a statement issued on Monday, Nwosu pointed out what he termed the “overstretched and inadequate” nature of the existing security framework.
“The rising crime rate across Anambra is alarming. It has become increasingly clear that Governor Soludo’s current security architecture is no longer effective,” he stated.
The ADC candidate urged the state government to adopt modern, technology-driven security solutions, including real-time surveillance systems, advanced communication networks, and data-driven early-warning tools to prevent threats and facilitate rapid responses.
He further advocated for the establishment of a functional command-and-control center, the deployment of drones, and the installation of AI-enabled facial recognition cameras throughout the state.
While encouraging the people of Anambra to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, Nwosu stressed the urgent need to overhaul the state’s security measures.
“Technology is the future,” he remarked, urging Governor Soludo to seriously consider his proposed blueprint for a safer and more secure Anambra.
The Nawfia community, already reeling from the attack, received condolences from Nwosu, who characterized the incident as a moment of sorrow for the entire state.
As Anambra continues to contend with a rise in violent crimes, the call for modern, technology-based security solutions raises critical questions about the state’s preparedness to safeguard its citizens in an increasingly complex security environment.
