Former Big Brother Naija contestant, Samuel Jacob, widely known as Sammie, has openly discussed his battles with depression and financial difficulties since leaving the reality TV series.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram, the reality star revealed that he faced depression multiple times while trying to adapt to life after the show.

Despite how others perceive his success, Sammie expressed that he often cried alone in his Lekki apartment, feeling overwhelmed by the harsh realities of life in Lagos.

“A year after the show, I lost track of how many times I experienced depression. I would sit alone in my Lekki home and just cry. A grown man like me, with a beard, crying and questioning God. Some days I’d express my gratitude, while on other days, I’d simply break down.”

The reality star acknowledged that financial instability exacerbated his challenges, noting that he frequently received more debit alerts than credit notifications.

“There was hardly any money coming in, yet I still had a lifestyle to maintain. It really affected my mental state,” he said.

Sammie explained that his decision to leave university for the Big Brother Naija show disrupted his plans and left him uncertain about his future.

“I was in Lagos, attempting to live up to the ‘star boy’ label, but I had no substantial income,” he recalled.

He also recounted moments when he felt left behind as those around him seemed to be flourishing.

“You’d see young men arriving in their G-Wagons while I was just eating my indomie, wearing my nice shirt, and no one would know what I was going through,” Sammie added.
