The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, has made it clear that he will refrain from engaging in public disputes with Aliko Dangote, the president of Dangote Refinery, regarding recent allegations.
In a statement released on Wednesday via the NMDPRA X account, Ahmed rejected reports claiming he had responded to Dangote’s accusations, stating that the alleged response “did not originate from me.”
“I have been made aware of a supposed response attributed to me concerning the recent allegations. I want to categorically state that the so-called statement did not originate from me,” Ahmed stated.
Recognizing the allegations and the public interest they have sparked, he explained that he consciously chose not to participate in public exchanges, citing the delicate nature of his position as a regulator.
Ahmed mentioned that Dangote has referred the matter to a formal investigative body, expressing confidence that due process will thoroughly examine the issues and help clear his name.
“While I am aware of the baseless and unfounded allegations made against me and my family, and the uproar it has caused, I have decided not to engage in public disputes as a regulator of a sensitive industry.
“Fortunately, the individual behind the allegations has submitted the matter to a formal investigative institution. I believe this will allow for a calm and objective examination of the issues to clear my name,” he added.
According to DAILY POST, Dangote has approached the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) regarding claims that Ahmed spent $5 million on his children's tuition.
The ICPC confirmed receipt of the petition on Tuesday.
