DISGRACED Huw Edwards’ attempted comeback lies in tatters after he parted ways with his publicist who gave a series of ‘car crash’ interviews.

The shamed former newsreader’s PR had appeared on TV defending the convicted paedophile and claiming he wanted to “figure out why” he had committed his crimes.

The interviews came after the show told how The Sun helped expose the anchorman’s double life which led to a suspended jail sentence.

in the recent show which depicted Edwards paying a vulnerable teen boy for sexual photos.

After the programme aired Tomes made a number of appearances including one where he was branded a “a publicist for a paedophile”.

Tomes now claims he had only planned to represent Edwards for a seven-day period, without any payment.

He said in a statement: “Following the media frenzy for the past ten days surrounding the I agreed to act as the publicist on behalf of Huw Edwards for seven days only on a pro bono basis to give media advice.

“This offer was made by me and not sought by Edwards.

“Today, I met in person with and delivered all the communications I received to him with a basic explanation.

“Many included offers for interviews, documentaries and other forms of media activity.

“This, despite me repeatedly stating that I am not seeking any media work for Edwards. I cannot add anything further.”

Shamed Edwards also claimed that: “Other opportunities will arise later this year” for him to tell his side of the story.

He has reportedly he received after he was arrested over child abuse images.
