Ketan, a member of a Staffordshire flying club, was remembered as being “popular”.

The club said in an online tribute: “Ketan was a very popular member and loved to talk about flying and aviation.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to their families and friends at this difficult time.”

Police were called to the scene at Caernarfon Airport at around midday before launching a multi-agency search for the light aircraft.

It was shortly afterwards found in a remote area near Trawsfynydd, Gwynedd where the two, both from Syston in Leicestershire, were pronounced dead.

A team of investigators from the Air Accidents Investigations Branch (AAIB) shortly after launched a probe into the tragedy.

The cause of death has provisionally been identified as major impact trauma.

Ch Supt Owain Llewellyn said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragic incident.

“We will support the AAIB with their investigation to ensure the circumstances leading to this incident are fully understood.

“This has been a challenging search operation and I am grateful to all of the agencies involved for their professionalism and dedication.”

North Police are supporting the AAIB in its probe into the tragedy.
