WOKE HS2 bosses have splashed millions of pounds on meeting diversity targets which have nothing to do with railways.

The high speed rail flop is already years overdue and has been marred by cost overruns totalling billions of pounds.

In a new report on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), bosses hail the spending of tens of millions of pounds on woke side-projects.

In the report, Joanna Davinson, the HS2 board member responsible for diversity, writes that EDI “shapes how we think, lead and build the railway”.

Hs2 has spent £61million on diverse owned suppliers, up more than a third from the £44million the year before.

The EDI report defines these businesses as “owned” or “majority-controlled” by women, ethnic minorities, LGBT or disabled people.

Having a diverse workforce was an “integral” part of feeling “psychologically safe” during the designing and building of the project, the report adds.

Tory MP and shadow transport minister Jerome Mayhew slammed the report for “boasting” about “vanity projects” which have “nothing to do with trains being delivered”.

He said: “ HS2 should be concentrating on cutting costs and delivering track on time.

“Taxpayers want to know when this railway will be delivered and at what price.”

The Sun previously revealed how staff were made to do 50 days of inclusivity training when they could have been working on the line.

Employees faced a combined 344 hours’ worth in 2½ years on the high-speed train flop in 2022.

A spokesman for HS2 said: “We take our statutory commitments under the Equality Act seriously and set high standards for the thousands of businesses actively engaged in our supply chain.”
