The Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sanusi II, has urged for greater connections of love and unity across the Niger River, emphasizing that Nigeria requires these connections to become a unified nation.
The Emir made this statement at Atani, Arochukwu LGA of Abia State on Thursday during the 2025 Atani Day celebration. He called on Nigerians to join hands as brothers and sisters, recognizing each other as ‘citizens of one great nation.’
“I hope we will continue to create these connections across the Niger, to unite and remain like brothers and sisters, citizens of one wonderful country,” the Emir of Kano expressed.
Sanusi, a member of the Abia International Economic Advisory Board, also expressed his approval of Governor Alex Otti's performance in Abia State, noting that Nigerians are acknowledging his efforts.
During the event, Abia State Governor Otti remarked that Nigerians should refrain from politicizing ethnicity and tribalism, stressing that discussions on issues should not be rooted in ethnicity and religion.
Otti acknowledged that Emir Sanusi has faced numerous challenges but commended him for not allowing these obstacles to deter him.
“So, I don’t know what you are experiencing today; if there’s no one else to look up to, look at him.
“He served as the Central Bank Governor, advocated for what was right, and was removed from his position. I recall his words then: you may suspend me, but you cannot suspend the truth.
“As an Emir, he was dismissed, but later he was reinstated,” Governor Otti remarked regarding Emir Sanusi.
