A HOLLYOAKS legend has revealed her huge new telly gig weeks after announcing she’s quit the soap.

, who has played ‘ Diane Hutchinson since 2010, has been diagnosed with terminal in a heartbreaking final on-screen storyline.

The hard-hitting plot – which will see the actress wraps – is currently playing out on and has seen viewers devastated by scenes which saw Diane tell her husband Tony and their three children about her terminal diagnosis.

Yet while she remains on the soap for now, she has also revealed a huge new job on the station’s stalwart game show, .

She will be a guest host in the show’s dictionary corner alongside show veteran Susie Dent.

Alex revealed her surprising new job in a post shared to her social media, which saw her posing against the show’s iconic .

She excitedly told her followers: “Well who’d have thought I’d be doing a show that I grew up watching with my nan.

“Love a conundrum and actually got one today.

“Thanks to the whole team for making me welcome even though the nerves tried to get the better of me.

“Thanks @mrcolinmurray @rachelrileyrr & my partner in crime in the dictionary corner Susie Dent… what a lovely clever bunch who made me so welcome”.

She then alerted fans to her time on-screen and added: “Keep an eye out for me #COUNTDOWN Monday 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th July @channel4

“Thanks to the wonderful costume dept & @clarissamakeup_ for the makeover”.

Alex’s followers including her Hollyoaks castmates – who on her leaving do -were quick to congratulate her on her surprising new job.

Brook Debio, who plays Alex’s on screen son Ant, commented: “GOWARN AL.”

Fellow Hollyoaks stars Nadine Mulkerrin and Oscar Curtis also showed their support as they hit the heart-shaped like button on Alex’s announcement post.

She told the BBC : “I’ve got real mixed emotions as you can imagine, but it was my choice – I just thought the character has done everything.

“I’ve had 16 amazing years. They’ve flown by. I’m 50, and this is not a rehearsal, as cliche as that sounds.

“Life is really not a rehearsal and I thought ‘if I don’t do it this year, when am I going to do it?’”

She also opened up about what she hoped would be next for her after decades in soap.

“My agent’s working really hard behind scenes,” she said.

“It’d be nice for me to do something completely different. I’d love to do a comedy or I’d like to be a scullery maid in the kitchens in a period drama.”
