STAR Trek legend William Shatner has led emotional tributes to Sir Patrick Stewart following the Hollywood icon’s death aged 86.
The beloved British actor, who became a household name playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, died following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

Shatner, 95, who famously played Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series, was among the first stars to share his heartbreak.
Alongside a touching photograph of the two actors embracing, he wrote on Instagram: “What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor.
“From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did.
“Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.” He concluded: “My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.”

Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman, who starred opposite Patrick in the X-Men movies, also shared a moving message on Instagram. The Wolverine actor wrote: “We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man.
“I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days.” The actor’s death was announced on Thursday in a statement shared on his official social media accounts.
His family said he had been surrounded by loved ones, music, prayers, tears and laughter during his final days.
They added: “We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace.”
Born in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, in 1940, Patrick enjoyed an extraordinary acting career spanning more than six decades.
Patrick is survived by his wife Sunny and his two children from his first marriage.
