The Christian Media Forum, CMF, is mourning the death of Abubakar Abdullahi, the Imam of Nghar village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The forum described the deceased as a perfect example of what peaceful coexistence looks like.
A statement jointly signed by CMF National President, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson and National Secretary, Andrew Ibrahim Mshelia further hailed the late Imam as a champion of peace and unity.
It expressed shock at the Imam’s death, describing it as a great loss not only to his family, but the country as a whole.
The statement noted that Imam Abubakar Abdullahi died at a time the country needed his counsel to unite both faiths in order to fight the nation’s common enemies for its overall unity and development.
The forum urged other clerics to emulate Imam Abubakar Abdullahi, who spent his whole life providing spiritual guidance and bridging peace across all faiths.
“We join members of his immediate family and the Muslim Ummah to mourn the death of an advocate of peaceful coexistence.
“We stand with his family in this trying time and pray that the good Lord rest his soul,” the statement explained.
The CMF also commended the late Imam for his bravery and selflessness in sheltering Christians during the violent attacks, saying that Imam Abubakar Abdullahi’s legacy should inspire Nigerians to work towards unity and peaceful coexistence.
The CMF extended its condolences to the family of the late Imam and the Muslim community.
The statement prayed that the late Imam’s contributions to peace and unity in Nigeria will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
“May God grant the departed soul eternal rest and comfort his family and loved ones,” the forum prayed.
Abubakar Abdullahi was a courageous cleric who famously sheltered 262 Christians during violent attacks in his village.
His death was confirmed on Friday by his son, Saleh Abubakar, who told newsmen that the cleric passed away on Thursday night at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos.
According to Saleh, his father had been hospitalised for about ten days before his death after being diagnosed with a heart condition.
