But the former Middlesbrough gaffer’s appointment has done incredibly little to enthuse club legend Keane.
Speaking ahead of the Manchester Derby, the Sky Sports pundit said: “I’m more concerned with the appointment and the staff that have come in with the manager.
“But I think I’d be like that with most people at this stage of the season.
“And looking at the group of players they have, it’s gonna be a big ask.”
Carrick’s interim gig at Old Trafford is his first managerial job since he was sacked by Middlesbrough last June.
And Keane believes his time at the Riverside Stadium was an abject FAILURE.
He continued: “Look at , whatever his remit was at Middlesbrough, I’m pretty sure it was to probably get promoted.
“He didn’t do that. So you could say he failed there. But it doesn’t mean to say he’s a bad manager. Obviously, that was a difficult job.”

Keane also has serious reservations about Carrick’s coaching team, which is made up of Steve Holland, Travis Binnion, Craig Mawson and former Red Devils defender Johnny Evans.
He said of Carrick being given the job: “It’s great, it’s great for him. But I look at the staff he’s brought in.
“We sit here every week talking about Man United being the best of the best and at this moment in time.
“I don’t see that even with the appointment and the staff. But [that] doesn’t mean to say they can’t get results.
“It’s a it’s a great opportunity for him and his staff. But of course I’m concerned. And I said that about the previous manager.”
He added: “It’s a great opportunity for Carrick. But of course I’m concerned, but I said that about the previous manager. It just seems a bit of a circus act at the moment.
“But if they start well and get momentum I still think there’s a great chance for the team to get in the Champions League, which has got to be the aim.”
Carrick couldn’t care less about Keane or any other former United star’s criticisms.
It just seems a bit of a circus act at the moment.”

He said: “They’re not putting more pressure on me. I don’t feel that.
“It’s part of it, the role I understand, plenty of opinions around, some are positive, some not so much.
“But for me, it’s totally irrelevant how I go about work, what I focus on. I know already what we want to improve on, how we want to work with the players.
“There’s a lot of opinions, a lot can be said, it is the way of the world. I’m not going to pay too much attention to most of that. It’s not for me to do that.
“For me, the players and staff, it’s to focus on how we’re gonna succeed, that’s our job, that’s our responsibility.
“That’s what our minds should be on: what we can do for this club. “Honestly, it didn’t bother me.”
