The Chairman of Bende LGA of Abia State, Uwabunkonye Bassey, has alleged that some unnamed politicians are planning to obtain sensitive details from villagers, including the National Identification Number, NIN, and voters card numbers, during a political party e-registration exercise.
Bassey made the claim in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chimezie Princewell Okezie, on Saturday.
He said information he received revealed that the plot will be executed during town hall meetings where sensitive personal details would be copied or photographed.
Parts of the statement read, “The Executive Chairman wishes to make it clear that no individual or group has the right to collect or demand INEC voter’s cards or NIN details from citizens in this manner.
“Such actions are illegal, unsafe, and contrary to established democratic processes, as well as existing data protection and electoral guidelines.”
The Bende LGA chairman advised residents of the council to be vigilant by not sharing their personal information with unauthorized persons.
