Hans Zimmer says the music for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series should develop an identity of its own rather than imitate the scores created for the films.

A different musical direction

Zimmer said the creative goal is to move away from copying the earlier film music. The challenge is to respect a well-known musical legacy while giving the television adaptation a sound that belongs to the new production.

Bleeding Fingers Music joins the project

The official Harry Potter site previously confirmed that Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music are composing the score. Kara Talve and Anže Rozman are also part of the announced music team.

Why it matters

Music can define how a new adaptation distinguishes itself from previous screen versions. A distinct score gives the television series room to establish its own tone while still acknowledging the history audiences already associate with the franchise.
