Unknown assailants attacked the Damakasuwa community in the Chawai Chiefdom of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of approximately seven individuals, while one person sustained gunshot wounds.
On Friday, a source reported that around 8:00 PM, the assailants invaded the community, opening fire indiscriminately, which forced residents to flee into nearby bushes for their safety.

The Paramount Chief of Chawai, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, confirmed the incident, stating that five individuals were shot dead on the spot, while two others who were critically injured later succumbed to their injuries.
He noted that the incident has increased tension in the area but also confirmed that normalcy has been restored due to the presence of military personnel in the community.
He stated, “We’ve urged our people to remain calm and allow the security agencies to perform their duties diligently to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
According to reports from DAILY POST, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately on villagers who were either preparing for bed or still engaged in evening activities.
This incident has heightened fear throughout neighboring settlements in the Chawai axis of Kauru LGA, which has experienced ongoing armed assaults, kidnappings, and killings in recent months.
