Bashir Ahmad, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has alleged that attention is being shifted from governance to politics in Kano State since the Governor, Abba Yusuf, hinted at his possible defection to the ruling party.
DAILY POST reports that the governor was expected to officially join the ruling party earlier this week after reportedly parting with his political godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
However, until the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement to confirm the governor’s shift to the ruling party.
In a post on his official X handle on Saturday, Bashir lamented that since the governor’s intention was made public, attention has been shifted from governance to politics.
He wrote, “Since the moment the Governor hinted some weeks ago about a possible decamping to the ruling APC, governance in our state appears to have slowed down, with attention shifting almost entirely to the politics around the decamping conversations.
“Ideally, such a sensitive decision should have been concluded internally, with all necessary consultations with stakeholders completed, before being leaked to the public. This is how it has played out in many other states, where governors moved to the APC with little or no drama.
“The lingering nature of this issue has inevitably affected governance in Kano and created avoidable political tension and pressure, which the state can ill afford at this time.
“The focus should always remain on delivering good governance, not prolonged political uncertainty.”
