Gov Adeleke not part of coalition — Osun PDP

Published on July 02, 2025 at 06:51 PM

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed claims that Governor Ademola Adeleke is involved in any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, affirmed that Governor Adeleke remains fully committed to PDP and is not part of any coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

This clarification follows reports that Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the PDP, has formed a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to challenge the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

Bisi declared, “We remain with PDP. Governor Ademola Adeleke also remains in PDP. We are in PDP, we are not going anywhere. I can assure you, we are not going anywhere.”;

He added that the party in Osun State remains united and committed to its goals under the current leadership and has no interest in joining any political alliance or coalition.

In response to the formation of the coalition, Bisi said, “We are in a democracy. Before APC came to power in 2015, they also formed a coalition. There’s nothing wrong with those people coming together to form a coalition against it.”;

However, he expressed concern over Atiku’s recent remarks, where the former presidential candidate described PDP as too weak to win a national election, stating that such comments were inaccurate and unfair.

“I did not agree with Atiku Abubakar that PDP is weak and cannot win an election. This will not be the first time Atiku has left PDP, and PDP won the election in his absence,”; Bisi said.

Noting Atiku’s history of leaving and rejoining political parties, Bisi stated that such movements have never significantly affected PDP’s electoral strength in the past.

The Osun PDP chairman also dismissed suggestions that the coalition’s formation could destabilise PDP, asserting that the party’s structure in Osun remains firm and focused.

While advising members and supporters of PDP in Osun State and across the country to remain calm and steadfast, he assured them that the party leadership is committed to unity and victory in future elections.
