The lawmaker representing Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency in Gombe State in the House of Representatives, Mr Inuwa Garba, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Garba formally presented his APC membership card, obtained from Lubo Ward in Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday in Gombe.
He said the presentation symbolised his complete alignment with the governing party at both state and national levels.
According to him, receiving the APC card marked his full integration into what he described as the progressive family.
Garba said his decision followed wide consultations with political associates, supporters, and community leaders across his constituency.
He cited Yahaya’s purposeful leadership and people-centred policies as key factors influencing his move.
The lawmaker praised ongoing infrastructure projects, social investment initiatives, and reforms aimed at improving livelihoods in Gombe State.
He also referenced the reform-driven Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu as further inspiration.
According to him, the APC provides a credible, stable, and development-oriented platform capable of delivering sustainable growth and inclusive governance.
Garba said: “The APC represents the future of progressive governance in Nigeria.
“I am convinced that under Governor Yahaya and President Tinubu, our people will continue to enjoy meaningful development.”
He maintained that national cohesion and economic stability require collaboration with the ruling party.
Garba pledged his loyalty and total commitment to the party and its leadership at all levels.
He assured constituents that his defection would attract greater federal presence and development projects to Yamaltu-Deba.
Responding, Governor Yahaya welcomed him into the APC fold and commended his courage and sense of responsibility.
He described the defection as a strong endorsement of the party’s performance in Gombe State.
The governor said it validated his administration’s development-focused model, anchored on infrastructure renewal, human capital development, and economic diversification.
Yahaya noted that the APC remained open to individuals committed to unity, growth, and responsible governance.
He added that the move would consolidate the APC’s dominance in the state ahead of future elections.
