UK to Air Global Football Tournament on Free-to-Air Channel for the First Time!

A GLOBAL football tournament is set to air on ITV next month.

This marks the first occasion in 40 years that the biennial competition will be broadcast by a free-to-air UK terrestrial channel.

The World Cup 2025 will take place in Qatar, showcasing some of the best emerging talent under the age of 17.

Germany currently holds the title, having won the trophy for the first time in 2023.

Nigeria is the tournament's most successful team, having won it five times.

England has claimed victory once, in 2017.

The agreement includes coverage of all three of England’s group stage matches.

These matches are against Haiti, Venezuela, and Egypt.

Select knockout stage fixtures will also be broadcast on ITV4.

A complete schedule will be released shortly.

The competition is set to commence on November 3 and conclude on November 27.

“This agreement signifies the first time ITV has aired the FIFA U-17 World Cup, and we are excited to strengthen our partnership with FIFA ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup 2026,” said Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport.

“The tournament will highlight the finest young football talents and showcase future superstars of the sport.”

The tournament was established in 1985, initially known as the FIFA U16 World Championship, and was renamed to U17 in 1991.
