But it was not the nudity in the photos that caused the Ukrainian authorities the most angst.
Instead, Ukrainians raged at pictures of the former model wearing a Russian ‘kokoshnik’ or headdress.
The foreign ministry in conducted an “additional check” on Yakimova, before revoking her credentials entirely.
It ordered more in-depth vetting in future for the appointment of honorary consuls.
One critic, influencer Marina Danilchuk, hit out at Yakimova online, saying: “I don’t know what’s better in this story — the naked breasts of the consul on social media or her photo in kokoshniks [Russian headdresses].”
She said: “I went to this lady’s social networks and everywhere in one line it says that she is a consul and she is a model.
“It’s strange to combine such areas, but, you know, is very rich in talents….
“Among these photos in panties, on my word of honour, in swimsuits, I managed to find official photos that confirm that this lady is indeed now the consul of Ukraine in the Dominican Republic.”
Odesa-born Yakimova did not comment on her firing from the unpaid role as honorary consul.
But as the backlash intensified earlier, the former glamour model insisted she was not ashamed of her raunchy past.
Yakimova said: “I did not try to conceal my previous life associated with modelling.
“The modern self-sufficient woman has the right to realise herself in her chosen profession, as well as to change the direction of development and growth.”
She insisted on her loyalty to Ukraine, saying: “I urge everyone to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and our volunteers. Glory to Ukraine.”
