CLASSIC novel Wuthering Heights has been given a trigger warning by a university — despite it being adapted into a much steamier movie.

1847 tale is said to contain “misogynistic, homophobic and racist attitudes”, according to dons.

It comes after the story was reimagined into a raunchy film released last month starring .

The has been slapped on an English literature Victorian fiction module at Cardiff University, with other greats including on the reading list.

A handbook has staff warning scholars they may encounter Victorian-era attitudes.

-set romance is among the books which may upset snowflakes.

The advisory warns of scenes of “physical and sexual violence, which some students may find distressing” and tells them to seek advice if concerned.

Other literary masterpieces on the course include Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Lord Toby Young, of the Free Speech Union, said: “If any students find the themes too distressing, perhaps they aren’t ready for university.

“Maybe they’d be more suited to a soft play centre.”

Tory MP Sir John Hayes added: “This is insulting to students’ intelligence.”

The university was asked for comment.
