The organizer of the Free Nnamdi Kanu protest, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday accused the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies of launching an unprovoked attack on demonstrators.

Sowore stated that the protesters were peaceful and well-organized, as he had assured, but security personnel opened fire on them.

The demonstration was intended to draw the attention of President Bola Tinubu to the release of Kanu, who is currently held by the Department of State Services under the orders of the Nigerian government.

The protesters planned to march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja; however, police officers obstructed the route while firing tear gas canisters at them.

While addressing the situation, Sowore remarked: “There wasn’t any specific leadership; approximately 10 trucks arrived simultaneously as soon as we commenced the protest, and people began to gather around.

“There was no provocation from our side; it was orderly and peaceful; the attack from the police force and a joint team of security personnel was completely unprovoked.”
