The father of four, who has been married to his wife Rachael for 20 years, was driving a three-wheeled Morgan supercar that flipped over on the track.

It scraped his face against the ground at speeds of approximately 40 to 45 mph, resulting in severe lacerations to the side of his nose, cheek, and lips, as well as fracturing his jawbone and teeth.

The incident left him not only with physical injuries but also psychological trauma, causing him to feel like a “snappy mess.”

During an appearance on Uncensored, Freddie shared: “I experience PTSD, including flashbacks and nightmares, but I’ve learned to accept them more now.

“However, the most significant change it brought was my return to cricket. Family, friends, and cricket have been my greatest sources of support during this time.”

He continued: “(After the accident) I became irritable and angry.

“The kids were amazing… My youngest, Preston, who was about two or two and a half at the time, initially wouldn’t come near me because I was in such a state.

“Everything is fine now. Rachael was incredibly strong; she had to be for both of us.”

Freddie decided to pause his television career following the incident, which occurred just before the show was put on hold, and he reportedly received £9 million in compensation from the production company.

In the past year, he has made a comeback, balancing cricket with a more manageable amount of television work.

Freddie has produced another season of his BBC cricket show Field of Dreams and is also working on a full series of the darts gameshow Bullseye for ITV.

Additionally, he has just released a book titled Coming Home: The Moments that Made Me, where he reflects on significant events in his life, including both personal and professional milestones as well as the Top Gear accident.
