Federal High Court adjourns human rights suit against Anambra govt

A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, the Anambra State capital has adjourned a Fundamental Human Right suit against Anambra State government filed by Lake Petroleum Limited.

The matter which was Adjourned to June 26, 2025, also has the Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Mr. Emeka Orji as respondent.

Lake Petroleum Limited had dragged the respondent to court after the alleged malicious demolition of its shops and houses last year.

When the case came up on Wednesday for ruling on the application for joinder filed by the Ogboo Family of Onitsha, who are also laying claim to the land, the presiding Judge, told the court that she could not rule on the application for joinder because the case file was not transferred to her.

The presiding judge said: “I have been transferred and with immediate effect. I am no longer in this case. I cannot give any ruling for the next judge. I will allow the case to be handled by the next judge to determine the joinder ruling. The case is hereby adjourned to June 26, 2025,”;; she said.

The case has suffered several adjournment since it inception in March 2024. Justice N. O Dimgba, who was formally presiding over the case was transferred, another Judge, Justice Yiwa Joseph also heard it briefly before he was transferred, before the outgoing judge.
