DSS denies involvement in Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest in Kenya

Published on May 21, 2025 at 04:11 PM

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Wednesday distanced itself from the controversial arrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in Kenya.

DSS insisted that its operations are limited strictly to Nigeria’s territorial borders.

This development came up during cross-examination of a prosecution witness, identified only as BBB, an intelligence officer from the DSS.

DAILY POST reports that Kanu is facing terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.

During the cross-examination, the DSS operative was grilled on several aspects of the agency’s investigation and its operational limits by Paul Erokoro (SAN), on behalf of the defence lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).

The witness admitted he had not listened to Radio Biafra directly and stated that the intelligence was credible from other officers assigned to the role.

The officer also denied involvement in Kanu’s arrest in Kenya, when pressed on its legality, stating, “We are a domestic intelligence agency. We do not operate outside Nigeria. If he were arrested in Kenya, we would not be responsible.”;;
