After previewing the game before kick-off, she was called into action during the first hydration break to give some analysis of the opening 20 minutes.

And fans were more than impressed with her tactical insight, with one person writing: “Quality from Emma Hayes + ITV that, more of that.”

Another commented: “Emma Hayes is the best pundit at the World Cup… by a distance. The tactical breakdowns are actually insane. To be able to condense the knowledge into understandable bite size pieces in such a short space of time is class.”

A third said: “Emma Hayes analysis during hydration breaks… Yes ITV, that’s how to do it!”

A fourth wrote: “Emma Hayes and her chalkboard surely the moment of the #WorldCup so far.

Meanwhile, some were confused as to why she was just given a chalkboard, with one person saying: “Why Emma Hayes having a game of naughts and crosses during a hydration break?”

While another commented: “Emma Hayes with chalk and a blackboard is absolutely bizarre. She explains it extremely well and her analysis is one of the best to listen but surely give her something better than an old fashioned blackboard to work with. But ITV’s coverage very much winning the battle so far.”
