Suddenly the pensioner edges from the side-line right into the oncoming traffic.
A Danish cyclist manages to swerve around the woman at the last second but a Dutch athlete behind him collides head on with her scooter.
The cyclist is thrown head first over his handle bars on the impact before he flips in the air and crashes to the floor.
A number of other riders behind him follow suit, all hitting the deck in a massive pile-up.
The terrifying incident left a number of contenders splayed out on the tarmac in visible shock.
Other cyclists ploughed past as they continued racing to the finish line.
Footage was shared online by a fan who said the woman was trying to get a better look by entering the course.
“Fortunately, the riders involved escaped without serious injuries despite some spectacular crashes”, he wrote under the post.

But he fumed: “It should go without saying: please NEVER enter the RACE COURSE while riders are approaching.
“Even a small step onto the road can have serious consequences at these speeds.
“This was not even the first incident of this kind during the race.
“Junior racing is already dangerous enough without spectators making it even more dangerous.
“Obviously, incidents like this are almost impossible to eliminate entirely, which is why spectators also have a responsibility to use COMMON SENSE and stay off the race course.”
The Saarland Trofeo is a junior, multi-day race held each year in as part of the UCI Junior Nations Cup.
Australian Alistair Forsyth claimed victory in the final stage of the race while Norwegian Sindre Orholm-Lønseth took the overall win.
It comes after a Venezuela when a police motorbike cut across the track.
Athletes were heading into a sprint for the finish line of Stage 3 when the bike sent cyclists flying.
As it turned inward the bike smashed into several bikes causing a pile up on the side of the road.
The cop riding the motorbike, a race judge and three athletes were injured in the crash.
The crash put a dampener on the mega race, which is comprised of four stages totalling a whopping 350.4km.
