The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has condemned the threat by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to suspend the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah, for publicly declaring support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti.
LP, which was reacting to the threat, said the former minister, Ogah, did not commit any anti-party offence as he is being accused by a section of the Abia State APC chapter.
In a statement signed by the Abia LP State Publicity Secretary, Chidiebere Okoro, the party said it was insulting for the APC to subject the former minister and other citizens of the state to public opprobrium because of unfounded allegations.
“It is an insult for Dr Ogah and other illustrious citizens to be subjected to public opprobrium through baseless and unfounded allegations just because they are exposed and informed enough to hold and express opinions.”
The Abia LP made it clear that the support the former minister declared for Otti’s re-election during an event in Isuikwuato LGA on Saturday was a personal opinion about the good performance of Governor Alex Otti.
However, the Abia State APC had, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, on Sunday, accused former Minister Uche Ogah of acting as a mole inside the APC.
Aguoru vowed that an immediate investigative mechanism would be activated by the broom party to thoroughly investigate the matter and recommend necessary action.
