A former governor of Kaduna State and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmed Makarfi, has stepped down from his position.
In his resignation letter dated November 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, the former governor cited concerns regarding zoning and the appointment of a new National Chairman from his geopolitical zone as reasons for his departure.
This decision comes two months after he first attempted to resign via the PDP BoT WhatsApp platform.
He noted that he had temporarily paused this action due to the intervention of the BoT leadership.
“You may recall that about two months ago, I had resigned as Secretary of the Board and posted the same on the Board’s WhatsApp platform,” Makarfi mentioned in the letter on Monday.
Makarfi further emphasized that Wabara intervened, requesting him to remain in his position until the conclusion of the PDP’s national convention.
The former governor of Kaduna State reiterated that his decision was based on a long-standing belief that both the BoT Secretary and the National Chairman of the party should not come from the same geopolitical zone.
