Europa League: Why Man Utd beat Athletic 3-0 – Amorim

Published on May 02, 2025 at 05:27 AM

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has admitted that the red card to Dani Vivian was the game-changing moment after they thrashed Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

United won 3-0 against the LaLiga side, who were reduced to 10 men before the end of the first half.

Casemiro had already headed the visitors in front, before the referee was asked to review an incident on the VAR monitor.

A penalty was awarded, which Bruno Fernandes stepped up to score, before adding a third goal.

Amorim, speaking to TNT Sports, said: “The result is really good, but we have to understand the result at the same time.

“We struggled a lot at the beginning and the sending off changed the game.

“Any game can change with one situation. We had an opportunity to score one more. This is not done and they can do the same at Old Trafford.”;
