Real Madrid manager, Ancelotti given May 26 to take new job

Published on May 02, 2025 at 05:29 AM

The Brazilian Football Confederation, CBF, is eager to have a new head coach by May 26.

According to ESPN, the CBF on Thursday extended its deadline for Carlo Ancelotti and is willing to wait until Real Madrid’s fate is determined in the LaLiga title race.

Madrid are currently sit four points behind leaders Barcelona with five matches left.

The two Spanish rivals will go face each other in another Clásico clash on May 11.

It is understood that is still a stand-off between Ancelotti and Madrid over the manner and timing of his exit from the Bernabeu.

This would need to be resolved before Ancelotti could accept the Brazil job.

The CBF are keen to have a new coach in place on May 26, when Brazil’s latest squad will be named for World Cup qualifiers in June against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Ancelotti had appeared to be close to an agreement with the CBF, but financial wrangling over his Madrid departure is now proving to be a stumbling block.

Madrid’s last game of the LaLiga season, against Real Sociedad, will be played on either May 24 or 25 at the Bernabéu.
