Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has criticized two Chelsea players following their unexpected 3-1 loss to Leeds United on Wednesday night.

He specifically pointed fingers at Malo Gusto and Tosin Adarabioyo for their disastrous defending during the match.

Chelsea had given their fans a glimmer of hope against Arsenal on Sunday, but on Wednesday night at Elland Road, they appeared to be a team lacking in character.

Jaka Bijol and Ao Tanaka scored to put the home team ahead before halftime, and Pedro Neto managed to score shortly after the start of the second half.

With just 18 minutes left in the match, Malo Gusto made a back pass to Tosin Adarabioyo, who failed to control the ball in his own six-yard box, allowing Leeds’ Noah Okafor to capitalize on the mistake.

Robert Sanchez partially blocked Okafor’s attempt, but the ball fell to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who easily tapped it in to make the score 3-1.

“It’s a nightmare for Maresca and a dream for Leeds,” Neville remarked on Sky Sports, holding Gusto and Tosin accountable for the blunder.

“The center-backs have been careless with the ball all night. I’m not sure if Gusto’s pass to Chalobah was the right choice; you simply need to clear it up the pitch. Why attempt to control it and play it back there? And Sanchez… it’s tough for him.”

“The front two for Leeds have dominated Chelsea for 72 minutes.”

“What a mess. Chelsea’s defenders have been inadequate on the ball all night, passing it around in their own six-yard box.”
