EPL: Man City fined £1m over multiple breaches

The Premier League have slapped a £1 million fine on Manchester City, after they accepted their punishment for breaching a rule nine times.

City endured a miserable domestic season in 2024–25, which saw them finish third, ending their run of four successive titles.

And they now face paying a seven-figure fine, after they breached the league’s rule multiple times.

Pep Guardiola’s men, who are currently playing at the Club World Cup, have come to an agreement with the top flight over the issue.

The Premier League’s Rule L.33 stipulates that teams must kick off, or restart fixtures in the second half, in a punctual manner, or else they may be fined.

Clubs are fined every time they fall short, and the penalty increases with each incident.

City were fined £40,000 when it happened the first time, but their ninth punishment is worth £190,000.
