Liverpool held off a Bournemouth fightback to secure a 4-2 victory in the opening Premier League fixture of the 2025/26 season.

The Reds are aiming to defend the title they claimed in Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

New striker Hugo Ekitike marked his debut with a goal, running through to calmly slot the ball past Petrovic.

Ekitike then provided the assist for Cody Gakpo at the start of the second half to double the lead.

However, Antoine Semenyo, who was racially abused in the first half, struck twice, including a stunning solo effort, to bring Bournemouth back into contention.

Liverpool, though, would not be denied. Substitute Federico Chiesa bundled in their third goal before Mohamed Salah continued his record of scoring on the opening day with a late strike, sealing an emotional win at Anfield.
