After a week of fighting for his life in intensive care, his family faced the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support machine.

This decision came after tests confirmed that Jeremy had sustained severe brain injuries, and they were informed that there was no hope for recovery.

The family then chose to donate his organs to three individuals in need of urgent transplants, ultimately saving their lives.

His father, Lee O’Regan, stated that the choice to donate Jeremy’s organs reflected the kind of person he was.

Mr. O’Regan remarked: “For about five days, there was no change.

“The machines were breathing for him. They revived his heart, which was keeping itself going.”

“We were guided by what Jeremy would have wanted, and there is no doubt he would have wanted to help others.

“A gentleman in his 30s received a kidney transplant after being on the waiting list for four years.

“A lady in her 20s received a kidney after being on the transplant waiting list for three years.

“And Jeremy gave the particularly rare gift of a heart to a gentleman in his 40s.”

Born on July 21, 2004, Jeremy was described by his family as outgoing, kind, and well-known throughout his hometown of Southampton, Hants.

Mr. O’Regan continued: “Jeremy was the life and soul of the party.

“He would strike up a conversation with anyone and always made time to talk to people.”

“He was just a genuinely good-natured young man and had time for everyone.”

Jeremy was the son of Lee, 48, and Danielle, 45, and the younger brother of Andrew, 23.

Mr. O’Regan shared: “The surgeon said, ‘Jeremy died a week ago. We have some incredible systems keeping him alive, but there is no hope.’”

On November 15, surrounded by both parents, Jeremy passed away, and the family was asked to consider organ donation.

The father stated that the decision was influenced by what they believed Jeremy would have wanted.

More than 120 people attended Jeremy’s memorial on November 28, with family, friends, colleagues, and former employers gathering to honor his life.

Since his passing, Jeremy’s family has initiated a fundraiser in his memory.

The funds raised have helped cover funeral expenses, with plans to support the intensive care unit that cared for him.

His father expressed that the family had not realized the complexities of hospital intensive care units until they experienced it firsthand.

Mr. O’Regan explained: “Jeremy was in a private room with 24-hour care for seven days.

“The machinery, everything – the costs involved must have been astronomical.”

He added that contributing part of the fundraiser to the unit was a way to give back to the staff who cared for his son.

So far, the initiative in Jeremy’s memory has raised over £7,000.

Mr. O’Regan hopes that Jeremy’s story will inspire others to consider joining the organ donor register.

He stated: “It’s remarkable that something so powerful can emerge from something so tragic.

“We simply want his legacy to demonstrate that something good arose from this sorrow.”
