The National Patriotic Front (NPF) has said emergency rule in Rivers State has restored calm, strengthened institutions and paved the way for critical projects, contrary to fears that it would worsen instability.

In a statement signed by its President, Marcus Dakas, and issued in Port Harcourt at the weekend, the group stated that the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has introduced security and governance measures credited with stabilising the state.

According to the NPF, the deployment of a joint security team across urban centres and vulnerable communities has curbed violent crime and quelled communal unrest.

The group noted that Port Harcourt and its environs, once tense with uncertainty, had recorded a return to peace and normal social life.

It added that beyond security, Ibas had pushed ahead with infrastructure and health projects, including the reconstruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, the completion of the Mother and Child Hospital in Port Harcourt, and the review of the N150 billion Port Harcourt Ring Road project.

The group also highlighted preparations for the August 30, 2025, local government elections, noting that funds had been released to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RVSIEC) to facilitate the exercise.

The NPF further recalled that the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State, led by House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere, had during its oversight visit commended the Sole Administrator’s efforts and expressed confidence in the state’s return to democratic governance.
