The Paramount Ruler of Sankera, His Royal Highness Tor Sankera, David Sevav, has urged the Federal and Benue State Governments to ensure that those behind the recent attack on St. Paul’s Parish, Aye-Twar, are brought to justice.

The parish was set ablaze by suspected armed Fulani militia, an incident that has drawn widespread condemnation.

Tor Sankera made the appeal during a solidarity visit to the Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Rev. Isaac Dugu, in the aftermath of the destruction. He was accompanied by members of the Sankera Traditional Council, Hon. Prince Solomon Wombo, who represents Sankera Federal Constituency, the Chairmen of Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs, members of the Benue State House of Assembly, and other government appointees.

The monarch described the attack as a desecration of a sacred space and a grievous affront to humanity. He said the violence was not only an assault on the Church but also a test of leadership and the capacity of security agencies to protect lives and property.

“Justice and security for all citizens, irrespective of religion, must be guaranteed if peace and harmony are to thrive in our communities,” he stressed.

The Tor Sankera further encouraged Bishop Dugu to remain steadfast, commending his peacebuilding initiatives, including his outreach to bandits in the bush efforts he described as rare even among Sankera’s own leaders.

He appealed to the Benue State Government to rebuild the parish and reinforce security to enable displaced residents to return and worship freely.
