The youth wing of the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has characterized the recent actions of the Nigerian Government regarding the release of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, as heartwarming.

The National President of the organization, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, expressed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Enugu.

Okwu noted that the Ohanaeze youths had made multiple attempts to gain the attention of the former president, the late Muhammadu Buhari, for the same cause, but the government showed little interest.

He expressed his happiness that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking steps to facilitate Ekweremadu's return to Nigeria.

DAILY POST recalls that President Tinubu’s delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, has begun discussions with the authorities in the United Kingdom regarding the possibility of transferring Ekweremadu back to Nigeria to serve the remainder of his prison sentence. Read more

Okwu stated, “This significant action by the Bola Tinubu administration further emphasizes his commitment to the Igbo people.

“President Bola Tinubu has consistently done for Ndigbo what the previous administration intentionally neglected to do.

The president of Ohanaeze youth, who also celebrated the appointment of another Igbo individual as one of the service chiefs, urged the Tinubu government to ensure the successful completion of the process for Ekweremadu’s return to Nigeria.

“Ndigbo are thankful to Mr. President for initiating this move; this singular action, along with several others, will always be appreciated.

“We encourage the government, having started this process, to see it through to a successful conclusion,” Okwu appealed.
