The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the $250 million investment he claims to have secured from Glasgow.
The party also condemned what it described as the governor’s propensity for verbally attacking opposition leaders.
In a statement released in Benin City, the Edo PDP Publicity Secretary, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, stated that the reported investment has become a source of concern and embarrassment for the residents of Edo.
He further questioned the apparent neglect of projects initiated during Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
Osa-Ogbegie emphasized that the party would carefully examine fiscal management practices in the state, especially where transparency and accountability seem to be lacking.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to upholding lawful authority and governance institutions but stressed that the party’s foremost allegiance is to the people of Edo State.
“When government policies genuinely enhance the lives of Edo citizens, we will support them. However, when governance descends into oppression, waste, or deceit, we will stand firmly with the people,” he stated.
“We inform the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo that the PDP will hold you accountable to the residents of Edo,” he added.
In addressing allegations of verbal assaults on opposition figures, Osa-Ogbegie cautioned that such behavior would no longer go unchallenged.
“Edo politics should transcend insults and embrace responsible, issue-based discussions. We must prioritize the economy, infrastructure, fiscal management, and the welfare of our people instead of resorting to personal attacks,” he asserted.
“The governor’s repeated insults toward opposition leaders undermine the dignity of his office and will not be tolerated. If the government believes in its policies, it should defend them with facts and substance, not insults,” Osa-Ogbegie concluded.
