A planning application for the work in a village was approved in November.

But they have been accused of denying local people a home.

East Suffolk councillor David Beavan said: “I am questioning the morality.

“We have got people without on the street.

“Two homeless families will not be housed because someone is knocking through to create a holiday home.”

The councillor added that the works would “put another nail in the coffin” in the community.

Mr Beavan added that the couple, who live on a £3.7million estate in Framlingham, should rent out the properties while they were unoccupied.

He has invited the Sheerans to let out their property through the council’s lettings service instead while the home is unoccupied.
