The actor, who played Ted Murray on the BBC soap for more than two years, was written out of the soap and given a lowkey exit.
Following his exit he went on to criticise the soap as he accused bosses of treating the cast like “their own property” after admitting that they were strict on allowing them to sign up for other work while contracted to the soap.
Just months before his exit, Christopher also revealed that he had fought a secret battle with prostate cancer, with him revealing that he didn’t even tell his children about his diagnosis until he got the all clear.
Prior to his Eastenders role, Christopher was best known to TV fans for his leading role as James Herriot in classic television series All Creatures Great and Small.
He also spent more than six years on BBC daytime soap opera Doctors.
