The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has assured the Igbo community, both locally and abroad, of strong security measures in place throughout the Southeast during the festive season, encouraging them to return in large numbers without any concerns.
The group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, provided this reassurance in a statement released on Sunday.
Powerful indicated that security personnel associated with the group's Eastern Security Network (ESN), along with community volunteers, will work to ensure safety during the festive period.
IPOB characterized the Southeast as one of the most tranquil regions in Nigeria, asserting that security conditions have improved despite what they referred to as “sponsored instability” in recent years.
According to the spokesperson, claims suggesting that the region is unsafe have been overstated and are intended to undermine the group's efforts.
He also refuted reports of a recent kidnapping along the Owerri–Aba Expressway at Ngor Okpala, labeling the circulating video as an outdated clip that has resurfaced on social media.
The group emphasized that security operations conducted by the ESN are usually carried out discreetly and are not advertised online.
Furthermore, they stated that the ESN does not maintain official social media accounts and cautioned the public against misinformation.
The organization accused the Federal Government and certain political figures of attempting, albeit unsuccessfully, to disrupt its operations, while reaffirming its long-standing demand for the self-determination of the Biafra region.
“Come home for the festive season and consider investing in the region. Your safety is assured. We wish all travelers a peaceful Christmas and safe journeys,” IPOB stated.
