BBC RADIO icon ‘Diddy’ David Dickinson has revealed details of an affair he had with a sex worker while married, stating that “having children complicates a marriage.”

The renowned broadcaster, 87, shared insights into his remarkable personal life.

DJ ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton has opened up about his affair during his first marriage. David disclosed that he was involved with a sex worker in the 1970s. David with his second wife Dreena in 1989 – they are still married today.

Joining the BBC in the early seventies alongside fellow veteran DJs, he has become a prominent figure in broadcasting.

Recently, the former star discussed the affair he had while married to his first wife.

David married make-up artist Sheila Moore in 1962 at the age of 24.

The couple had two children, Jane and David Jr, before their separation in 1970.

However, David, affectionately known as ‘Diddy’ due to a nickname from the late broadcaster, opened up about an affair during his marriage to Sheila.

In an interview with this week’s Best magazine , he admitted: “I was happily married until I fell in love with someone else.”

“I met her at Liverpool Street station. She was sitting on her suitcase wearing a fur coat, which she later told me she had borrowed.

“I just looked at her and thought, wow. I believe that if anything complicates a marriage, it’s children. Suddenly, the man finds himself taking a back seat.

“Then he encounters someone young, free, and single and thinks, ‘Wow, I could return to that happy state I was in before.'”

Continuing his narrative, David stated: “My wife discovered the truth because I talked about Roz frequently. I was infatuated. I left my wife and children, and we lived together for four years.”

Discussing his relationship with the escort, David recounted: “She asked if I would open her new shop and how much I would charge. I replied ‘£500.’

“She mentioned she charged £100 for her services, so ‘If you give me five, I’ll give you one.’

“That seemed reasonable, so I collected the first one that evening.

“I thought that would be the end of it. However, we grew very fond of each other.”

David has had a long and successful career in broadcasting.

“She was still working at the club, and I found myself getting too involved.”

David is currently married to his second wife, Dreena, an aerobics instructor, whom he met on a blind date.

They married in 1993 and have been together ever since.

Reflecting on the early years of their relationship, Dreena shared with the Mail: “There was quite a stir when we got together.

“My friends warned me, ‘You can’t marry him. He is a womanizer,’ but we’ve been together for 40 years now, married for 30.

“And there are no regrets.”

David told Best magazine: “Dreena is the wind beneath my wings. One of the reasons our relationship works is that she doesn’t take any nonsense from me!”
