STEFAN Dennis and Dianne Buswell made their return to Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night after fans alleged that his illness was a “cover-up.”
The duo had to sit out last week due to his health issues.
The announcement was made on Friday evening ahead of Saturday’s show; however, within hours, some fans were speculating it was a cover-up concerning Dianne's pregnancy.
Nevertheless, Stefan’s wife, Gail, also defended the couple and the circumstances they found themselves in.
In a post, Gail revealed that her husband had been hospitalized almost a year ago, marking this as only the second time his health had affected his work.
She shared a black and white photo of them together with the caption: “Get well soon, darling. I wish I could be there to pamper you.”
Dianne also expressed her thoughts on Instagram, stating: “Just to clarify, as I’ve received numerous messages from people thinking this is a cover-up for my inability to dance!?
“Firstly, we would never lie, especially about someone’s health!
“And secondly, I am fine. Yes, I am pregnant, but I am also very capable and feeling really good!”
In the statement released on Friday evening, it was disclosed that doctors had advised Stefan to take a break.
They stated: “Due to illness over the past few days, Stefan Dennis has been advised by doctors to rest, and as a result, he will not be dancing this weekend.”
It further mentioned: “In accordance with the rules of Strictly, Stefan and Dianne will receive a bye for next week, where they hopefully will be able to dance again.”
The pair missed performing a Waltz to "It Is You (I Have Loved)" from Shrek for Movie Week.
In the comments on the official Strictly Instagram post, Dianne wrote: “Sending all my Aussie love, Steffo ❤️ I know how much you wanted to dance.”
On It Takes Two, the host also shared the news, adding: “Stefan, we’re sending you our best wishes and can’t wait to have you back soon.”
Other Strictly stars also sent their well wishes to Stefan—who played Paul Robinson on Neighbours—with host Claudia Winkleman posting three red heart emojis.
Meanwhile, pro dancer also commented: “Sending lots of love and well wishes xxx.”
Fellow contestant Amber Davies added two red heart emojis.
