The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has characterized the recent surge of defections from the party as actions motivated by greed and self-interest.

He stated that these defections will not sway the PDP from its commitment to rebuilding the nation, emphasizing that the upcoming political battle is no longer just between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties, but rather between the APC and the Nigerian populace.

“As we approach 2027, it’s no longer a contest between the PDP and APC; it’s now the APC versus the Nigerian people,” Abdullahi asserted.

He made these remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s news program.

Abdullahi insisted that there is no valid reason for governors elected under the PDP banner to abandon the party, especially those who are nearing the end of their terms.

The PDP spokesperson expressed concern over the state of the nation under the APC administration, noting that Nigerians have endured significant hardships over the past decade, particularly in the last two years.

He remarked, “This is nothing but greed, avarice, and selfishness from those who are leaving because, to the best of my knowledge and that of Nigerians, there is no compelling reason for a governor completing his second term, for instance, in Bayelsa, to choose to leave the party.”

“From the PDP's perspective, it is good riddance to bad rubbish. If we can eliminate these elements before our convention next month, we will emerge stronger and better equipped to reclaim this country from what we see as an occupying force disguised as a democratic government.”
